Bob and Sandy Layman have long shared a passion for great food, and were accustomed to working long, hard hours in the restaurant industry. They just never dreamed of owning their own place.
But when an opportunity to purchase The Cellar came in late 2003, the former waitress with a managerial acumen and the undiscovered chef who yearned to stretch his wings found the chance too enticing to let slip by. The couple has found that their respective skills and talents combined to form a perfect recipe for success.
Sandy still pitches in as a part-time server while handling the "business end" - marketing and advertising, overseeing renovations, decor and staff. Bob, meanwhile, masters and perfects the culinary skills he has developed during more than 30 years in the food and beverage industry. The Laymans and their three sons have turned a local favorite into a regional destination whose fame is spreading far and wide.
